Swedish student at centre of Rome 'Maddie mystery' is living back at home with her dad - and will so

A HOMELESS woman once thought to be missing Maddie McCann is now living back at home with her dad, The Sun Online can reveal.

Embla Jauhojarvi has been living with her father Tahvo in Sweden since August after being identified and reunited with him in November 2016.

Just over a year ago the 22-year-old's tragic plight dominated headlines in Britain and Italy after internet sleuths posted photos of her online claiming she could be Madeleine McCann.

But after Maddie's parents ruled it out, Tahvo, from Sweden, came forward to reveal the woman in the photographs was his Asperger's-suffering daughter who had vanished while studying abroad.

He and Embla's mum then travelled to Rome to try and convince her to return home to Sweden.

More than a year later, Tahvo has now told The Sun Online his daughter is back home, healthier and looking to restart her studies.

After returning from Rome, she had spent many months in hospital.

He told The Sun Online: "She's living with me again. She can have a better future... and plan a little bit better. There was always hope.

"It was very nice because I was missing her so much and everything went very well when she came back again.

"I went to the hospital several times to see her but it wasn't so nice.

"I don't want to remember that so much, because even the Rome time was tough, it was hard to see her. Sometimes I see the pictures - still it is tough."

He added that she had wanted to rent her own place - but he told her she must first finish her studies and get a job so she could afford rent.

"She wanted to start studying again so she's waiting for information from the university, she hasn't got that yet.

"I think she will start to read law school or economics or something like that."

When the mystery surrounding Embla hit the news in November 2016, Tahvo booked himself on the first flight he could get to Rome.

At the time he told The Sun Online: "I think I can help to find Embla. There are a lot of people who want to offer that help but of course I need to contact the police and Swedish embassy.

"She's a bright girl but sometimes she can get in those strange situations."

He described the revelation she was living rough in Rome as somewhat of a relief after having no idea where she was or what had happened to her.

He eventually met with her at the Swedish embassy, where she was persuaded to return home despite her initial misgivings.
