Pet Cam Hilariously Captures How 'Houdini' Dog Escapes From His Crate

A dog who escaped from his crate rightfully earned his spot on the naughty list this year after a house camera caught him in action.

This dog has now earned the nickname "George the Great Houdini Dog" after he successfully used all of his might to open the latch on the crate door. He achieved his freedom fair and square, but based on the video caption, he will not be making the nice list.

The TikTok video, which was posted to the account @lah.and.lola on Tuesday and set to "Run, Rudolph Run" by Chuck Berry, showed George's impressive escape. While he initially tried to jiggle the lock to get out of his crate, he ultimately decided ripping off the door was the better option. He then took his rightful place on the comfy bed.

The clip, which has brought in nearly 300,000 views and 12,000 likes as of writing, sparked concern among some TikTok users that George wasn't being crate-trained properly.

"Need to create more positive associations with the crate so he knows it a safe place," wrote one TikTok user.

The good news is that George enjoys his crate 90 percent of the time, according to his owner. The other 10? Well, he goes full magic mode.

Other viewers suggested covering the crate for a darker space, but the owner responded by saying George is a deaf dog and taking away his view of the room would cause anxiety.

The owner added: "And just so everyone knows, he will be going to doggy daycare when we work. He had WORMS when we got him and couldn't go to daycare! We're trying."

Making Doggy Crates Comfortable

There is a great debate about whether or not to crate train your dogs, but those who do crate train are often met with endless whining to be let out. Dogs can't help themselves. They just want to be with their owner 24/7.

Luckily, there are ways to help make a dog crate more comfortable for your fur baby. A crate should be their "doggy den" PetMD states. It starts with finding the right style and size for your dog. Crates should be big enough to allow dogs to move around.

Dog owners should also encourage crate usage by keeping it open and throwing in toys and treats. Make the crate feel homey by adding beds, a water bowl, and toys. Keep in mind the size of the crate and check they will still have enough room with all the extras.
