Dragon Heist' Visits the Big City

A newly-released Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition module, Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, takes D&D adventurers through the various wards of the second largest city on the Forgotten Realms' Sword Coast, dwarfed only by Baldur's Gate to the south.

"Famed explorer Volothamp Geddarm needs you to complete a simple quest and thus begins a mad romp through the wards of Waterdeep as you uncover a villainous plot involving some of the city's most influential figures," D&D publisher Wizards of the Coast said in a press release. "A grand urban caper awaits you."

Dragon Heist isn't the first time 5th edition adventurers have visited Waterdeep, but the heist-centered narrative has a rare urban focus, different from typical fantasy settings, with detailed maps and descriptions of numerous locations within the city walls.

Waterdeep: Dragon Heist is designed for level 1-5 players, making it a perfect starter campaign. The sequel scheduled for release on Nov. 13, Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage, is designed for levels 5 through 20.

The new adventure joins other Forgotten Realms modules released for Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition, launched in 2014, including Hoard of the Dragon Queen, The Rise of Tiamat, Princes of the Apocalypse, Out of the Abyss, Storm King's Thunder and Tomb of Annihilation.

Dungeon Masters and adventurers campaigning on the Sword Coast for the first time might also find the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide helpful.

Accompanying the newly released Waterdeep adventure is the Waterdeep: Dragon Heist Dice Set, which includes two d20s, one d12, two d10s, one d8, four d6, one d4 and a hit point tracker, also releasing Nov. 13.

If all of this sounds like complete gibberish, hang on until Oct. 30, when Wizards of the Coast will release the Core Rule Book Gift Set, which packages together everything you need to start playing D&D, including the Player's Handbook, Monster Manual and Dungeon Masters Guide.
