One user penned: 'AHEM...IM JUST SAYING THAT AT LEAST SHE COULD WEAR SOMETHING APPROPRIATE!!!!!!'
'Put some damn clothes on and go eat a cheeseburger. And maybe pick up the holy Bible and see what God says about your behavior,' another wrote.
Adding: 'Our children may watch you and not realize what you really are but we do and we are going to start turning our TVs off and good luck making money'
Some trolls even responded with mean spirited and sometimes vile sentiments.
For her part, the Liv and Maddie star wasn't going to sit back and take the hate.
One user penned: 'AHEM...IM JUST SAYING THAT AT LEAST SHE COULD WEAR SOMETHING APPROPRIATE!!!!!!'
One user commented: 'Okay the reason why we're freaking out because us as kids we see you on Disney so seeing you getting drunk and posting pics of her half naked doesn't make you a great role model to the kids watching Disney.'
The star replied directly to that comment clarifying: 'I'm not…. drunk ? I'm in ….. a bathing suit? on vacation?'
She later added more to her caption: 'guys if i'm in a bathing suit, and i'm 23 and you're tripping, you need to re-evaluate what trips you up. and also get more comfortable w the human body'
A few days after the first video, Dove penned a long essay on social media about the human body, defending her choice to show hers when and how she pleases.
'guys if i'm in a bathing suit, and i'm 23 and you're tripping, you need to re-evaluate what trips you up. and also get more comfortable w the human body'
'The human body isn't offensive y'all. stop objectifying women so hard that you convince yourself that something natural and beautiful could ever be something offensive,' she began.
'also let women define their own bodies & their relationship to their bodies for themselves. stop defining women's bodies for said women. (goes for women shaming women as well) it's so repressed and unhealthy to look at nakedness and see something bad,' he explained.
Dove is just the latest former Disney star to catch flack for growing up from tween princess to adult woman and showing some skin.
Clapping back: Dove later posted a long essay-style caption about not sexualizing the human form on social media
Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Bella Thorne have all faced similar backlash from haters.
'It's just hundreds of years of social conditioning & it's super weird. we should be done with this whole shame thing,' Dove wrote.
'We only make nakedness inappropriate when we objectify and sexualize. a body is not inherently sexual. its beautiful and innocent. stop ruining it for yourself & others'
Speaking directly to those who trolled her for being what they deemed provocative, she said she wanted to be 'clear' to those who were so 'upset.'

'I am not saying 'everyone should just run naked in the streets like animals and the world should be in total chaos.' i am simply encouraging the embracing of the human body, the removal of the stigma that it is evil, the comfortability and LOVE of ones OWN body, and yes, if it is appropriate, if we are alone of at home, knowing that nakedness isn't wrong.
'Raising kids to be happy and friendly with their bodies and not sexualizing and objectifying it to the point that they become afraid of it. thanks for your time.
She ended with a simple request: 'please calm down.'
