DC McAllister of 'You were at my wedding Denise' fame FIRED from Federalist over homophobic comments

The Federalist writer who instantly became a meme when Meghan McCain tweeted at her, 'You were at my wedding, Denise' in response to harsh criticism has apologized after being fired from the publication after making homophobic comments in a series of tweets.

In a since-deleted tweet, Denise McCallister wrote that HuffPost writer Yashar Ali 'doesn’t know his purpose as a man' and 'wallows and tries to find himself in another man’s a**hole'  after he quoted an earlier tweet from McCallister about not interrupting her husband while he's watching NCAA basketball, writing, 'Oh Denise [frowning face emoji]' and later wrote, 'I guess Denise is not happy that I’m worried about how her husband treats her.'

The commentary escalated into Ben Shapiro direct messaging McCallister to let her know her services would no longer be needed at The Federalist, according to McCallister.

The Federalist founder and publisher Ben Domenech tweeted confirming she had been let go early on Sunday.

On Sunday afternoon, McCallister then apologized for the exchange, writing, 'The tweet in question has been deleted. I apologize to @yashar for responding to a perceived attack on my family in the manner I did and regret any embarrassment I caused @benshapiro and the @realDailyWire as well as @bdomenech and @FDRLST.'

McCallister became an internet punchline on a large scale on March 25 when she tweeted harsh criticism about The View, which McCain cohosts, and McCain responded reminding McCallister that she was a guest at her wedding in November of 2017.

McCallister tweeted: 'Can someone explain to me the purpose of The View? It seems to me to be a roundtable of delusional mental midgets ricocheting ignorance and lack of emotional regulation,' including a link to a story about McCain questioning her role on the show, which included a photo of her.

When McCain saw the post, she replied, 'you were at my wedding Denise....'

To that, McCallister wrote back the next day, 'I think the photo on the story made it look like this was personally directed at you, Meghan. My comment was directed at The View and the mental midgets who surround you. I don’t even know how you do it daily and my hat is off to you for standing strong in the midst of crazy.'

Now, her Twitter behavior has gotten her in more trouble, this time landing her without a job.

It all started on Friday, when McCallister tweeted the following account of trying to talk to her husband while he was watching college basketball:

'Trying to talk to my husband while Carolina is playing. He looks at me and says, “Woman, you know better than this. The game is on.” He’s right. I slipped. Commercial comes on. I fetch him a beer. He grabs me. Deep kisses. Patience and timing, ladies. That’s the lesson.'

Ali saw this, quoted the tweet, and wrote on Saturday, '“He’s right. I slipped.” Oh Denise [frowning face emoji]

Ali wasn't the only one who replied with seeming concern. One person quoted McCallister's post and wrote, 'are you.....okay?'

To that McCallister replied, 'Millennial women are such children. Let your man be a man. Let your man have his space. Let your man have a sense of humor. Most of all, trust your man. Stop thinking of yourself all the time and think of HIM!'

The user writing under account '@thefunnymuggle' had a joke for McCallister, replying, 'I take it you will not be coming to our wedding then Denise?' while her significant other chimed in, under account name '@Bmac0507' adding, 'Hi, it's me, her man. I'm perfectly fine with how she is as a strong woman thx.'

Apparently after McCallister noticed Ali's comment, she then tweeted on Saturday without tagging or naming him, 'A gay man commenting on a heterosexual relationship is just. Sad. Pathetic really.'

The same night, Ali took notice of that tweet, screengrabbed it and posted it, writing, '2. I guess Denise is not happy that I’m worried about how her husband treats her.'

Ali didn't reply to that tweet, but he did retweet it.

Then, McCallister wrote, 'Oh so sad. @yashar is lost. He doesn’t know his purpose as a man. He doesn’t know his purpose as a human being. He doesn’t know his purpose as an Individual. So he wallows and tries to find himself in another man’s a**hole. Sad,' which Ali also retweeted.

About two hours later, Ali screengrabbed the previous tweet, and posted it, writing, 'I was bullied for being Iranian as a kid. But I never felt ashamed of my ethnicity. I came out on 8/17/2001 & while it hasn’t always been easy, I have always been proud of who I am. I’m Iranian, gay, and Catholic. Perhaps an odd combo, but I wouldn’t change who I am for the world'

People overwhelmingly sided with Ali on Twitter, prompting McCallister to tweet a series of defenses and explanations of her comments, including the following:

'Oh my. I criticized ONE gay dude because he attacked me and my respect for real masculinity. Burn me at the stake. I’m quivering. And laughing at all of you.

'Dear everyone. I’ve had my life threatened on twitter. I’ve been called a c*nt, I’ve been threatened with rape, I’ve been told to kill myself. All with a twitter’s approval. If one tweet saying a man likes it up the a**—a true point—gets me banned then Free Speech is dead.'

To McCallister's last point, CNN host SE Cupp replied, 'I’m struggling to find your through line, Denise. I’ve had the same stuff aimed at me, of course, for years. That’s never magically turned me into a rageful homophobe. Free will, and all. [thinking face emoji]'

McCallaster the fired back, writing, ' Consider this @secupp A gay man criticizes my relationship with my husband in which I honor his masculine space, but no one criticizes the gay guy’s bigotry toward me.

'I counter his lack of self awareness in the context of his own sexuality yet I’m the bigot. Please explain.'

About an hour later, McCallister started tweeting again, writing:

'I have defensed (sic) masculinity & have been ridiculed for it. Maligned for loving my husband as a man & celebrating my role as a woman. Yet I’m the devil in the eyes of many. I criticize a gay man who dares to mock my relationship. And I’m the devil. You do see how f**ked up this is.'

Shortly after that, at 11.45pm Eastern on Saturday, McCallister alluded to her firing, posting, 'They won. Goodbye, my friends.'

McCallister had the last public word, writing after 1am, 'I’m thankful for everyone @FDRLST and my best to them in fighting the good fight.'

She added: 'I was fired when I criticized a gay man who mocked my heterosexual relationship. Yet no one defended me when I stood for masculinity and God’s design for sexuality despite outlets saying they represent Judeo-Christian values about sexuality, identity and purpose. What is truth?'
