Blondie singer Debbie Harry, 74, claims having cosmetic surgery is just like getting a flu jab

Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry has claimed having cosmetic surgery is just like getting a flu jab.

The American songstress, 74, admits getting older has been 'hard' on her looks and that the focus on her appearance throughout her 50 year career has made her wonder if she's ever achieved anything beyond her image.

Writing in her new memoir Face It, the singer acknowledges that she's never hidden the fact she's had plastic surgery.

'I think it's the same as having a flu shot basically, another way of looking after yourself,' she says.

'If it makes you feel better and look better and work better, that's what it's all about.'

Harry has previously claimed she had a facelift for 'business reasons' and has bleached her hair since the age of 14 to resemble film star Marilyn Monroe.

'He f***** me. And then he said, "Go clean yourself".'

It is not known exactly when the rape took place or if it was reported to the police but it is thought it was before Debbie shot to stardom in the 1970s.

However reflecting on the sexual assault, she said: 'The stolen guitars hurt me more.'

She also describes a 'violent and vitriolic' ex-lover, who stalked her after she dumped him, and confesses to using heroin 'to blank out parts of my life' or 'when I was dealing with some depression'.
